About Supertape

Founded in 2023 by three musicians and friends with deep roots in tech and design, Supertape brings together unique expertise from different corners of the industry. Matt Wigham, co-founder of e-commerce platform Big Cartel, joined forces with Chance Graham, former Apple Design Team member who worked on Apple Music and Apple Watch, and Matt Mateus, a veteran of Youth Arts non-profit, to create a platform that truly understands musicians' needs.

Built by musicians for musicians, Supertape helps artists create and manage their web presence without technical complexity. The platform seamlessly syncs with services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp to automatically aggregate artists' music, tour dates, and merchandise. Their templates are specifically designed for promoting music and helping fans discover and support artists on their preferred platforms.

Could you tell me about Supertape and what your platform does?

We take an opinionated approach to website building specifically for musicians. Our platform syncs with music services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp to automatically aggregate their music, tour dates, and merchandise.

We're focused solely on musicians - that's our world and that's all we care about. We want to keep it just the three of us and serve this niche really well.

What challenges were you facing with custom domains before using our service?

We were using Cloudflare but couldn't use Apex domains without their enterprise plan, which was prohibitively expensive. We tried working around it with alias records, but that proved problematic.

Explaining to users how to set up alias records was a mess - very few DNS providers even offer aliases. We needed something simpler.

How did our solution help address these challenges?

The webhooks were a big improvement - previously we were polling to check domain status. That removed a good chunk of code on our end.

It let us start recommending simple A records again instead of alias records. That simplified things and reduced back-and-forth with customers.
